THE NOTWIST «VÉRTIGO DAYS»
Info
The Notwist's first album in six years, Vertigo Days, is a magnificent musical decalogue from one of the most influential independent bands on the international scene. Curiosity and a willingness to embrace new aesthetics, languages and styles have always been the driving forces behind The Notwist's music, but this trait is even more pronounced on Vertigo Days, where the listener can appreciate an amalgamation of melancholic pop and sparkling electronic music, hypnotic krautrock and soaring ballads.
Conceptually, this is reflected in the fact that The Notwist have expanded their core line-up (consisting of brothers Markus and Micha Acher plus Cico Beck) on the aforementioned album.
Six years have gone by since their last album Close to the Glass; six years in which the band members have not only devoted themselves to their other bands (for example, Spirit Fest, Hochzeitskapelle, Alien Ensemble, Joasihno), but also to running their own record label (Alien Transistor), composing several soundtracks and curating compilation albums (most recently Minna Miteru) and an annual festival (Alien Disko).
Vertigo Days was destined to transcend all conventional connotations of the band and its creative and geographical boundaries
embedded in that concept: collaborations with Saya from Tenniscoats, Angel Bat Dawid, Ben LaMar Gay, Juana Molina, among others, as well as new member Theresa Loibl on bass clarinet, harmonium and keyboard, expanded the band's sound palette, stylistic range and even lyrical approaches through a variety of new instruments, artistic approaches and languages. Supplemented by the live album Vertigo Days-Live from Alien Research Center, the record features photographs by Japanese artist Lieko Shiga, taken in the 2000s, and marks a new beginning for this cult indie rock band.
